Intern Details Name: Jitendra Kumar Name of College: School of Excellence in Law Year of Study: Final year of 3 year LLB(Hons) course Duration of Internship 3 months (June 10, 2015 – September 10, 2015) (Mon to Sat) Name of Advocate G.Thilakavathi, No.1, Appavu Avenue, Mandapam Road, Kilpauk, Chennai – 600 010 Application process Mostly Based on reference. First day experience The reporting time to the office is 10 am sharp. The interns are required to come in proper uniform with white shirt and black trousers for boys. The first day was very exciting for me, as soon as I entered office I was given the cause list to check with our cases which are listed. I accompanied with the Advocate to the Court halls. Work Environment Work environment is very friendly. Interns work directly with the advocate. Accompany advocate to the court halls. Timings are also flexible. Main work Main work is to accompany the advocate to hearings at court halls, listen to arguments, keep track of matters.  Most of the matters are related to Writ petitions, Service matters, property suits. (But deal with various fields) At office, interns are required to read the drafts. Make brief notes of about the cases and list the required documents and also to research on the particular case and collect related judgments. Interns are sometimes required to carry out section works which is very helpful for the interns to know the practical and procedural aspects of court work. Pros The basics can be learnt very well at this office. Direct touch with the advocate helps to know how advocates really work. There is exposure to both practical and procedural aspects. The best part to me was, since I had my college in noon at 2 pm, I leave the office/court @ 1 pm. On Saturday’s its, from 10 am to 4 pm. Cons The interns are to run between various court halls in the court campus. The given work is to be completed in a speedy manner instead of working coolly. Stipend No stipend (Allowances may be given). In over all aspect, the internship gives you wide exposure to the functions of the court. — This entry has been submitted for the LexisNexis-Lawctopus Internship Experience Writing Competition 2015-2016. iPleaders is the learning partner for this competition.
